The Artists Network

7 – 9pm, Thursday 22nd March 2012

Waterside Arts Centre

Free

The Artists Network (TAN) is a relaxed, informal networking space for artists from all across Greater Manchester, with each meeting taking a different theme. The group meets 3-4 times a year and we welcome new attendees – this is a place for artists to meet other artists, to get inspiration and share ideas and experience.

This TAN meeting features talks from Pakistan-born 2D artist and maker Halima Cassell alongside artists whose work features in the 2012 Waterside Open (Lauriston Gallery, Feb – Apr 2012).

Halima’s work combines strong geometric elementswith recurrent patterns and architectural principles. She has previously exhibited at Waterside, along with the V&A and India’s Toe Gallery. At this talk, she will discuss her own work and inspirations as well as her involvement with the Open.

Also featured at this event is Trafford-based visual artist Frances Rocca who is winner of the Best in Trafford award in the 2012 Waterside Open. Her work is inspired by the world of science, from the smallest of cells in microbiology to galaxies in the universe, units are the compounds of the environment we live in, unseen to the naked eye. Frances uses artificial lighting and repetition to create sensory sculptural pieces that aim to alter spaces and perception.

The bar will be open, so to register for this free event, just call our box office and leave your name and contact details.

To book call 0161 912 5616.
