<p>Join Wes Brown, director of <a title="Dead Ink Books link" href="http://www.deadinkbooks.com" target="_blank">Dead Ink Books</a>, for this workshop on the writers’ craft, which also includes a look at digital media and new publishing formats. The workshop is comprised of two sessions, with the morning section looking at the writers’ craft &#8211; how to develop your self-editing and writing skills. In the afternoon, the workshop will provide insights into the changing nature of the publishing industry.</p>
<p>Places are limited to 10 people.</p>
<p>Dead Ink Books publish the best new poetry and prose by contemporary authors across the UK. They are supported by Arts Council England, and distribute literature through apps, ebooks and online.</p>
<p>Workshop leader Wes Brown is a novelist, critic and editor based in Leeds. He is the director of Dead Ink Books, Information Manager at the <a title="NALD website link" href="http://www.literaturedevelopment.co.uk/" target="_blank">National Association for Literature Development</a> and Young Writers Co-ordinator at the <a title="NAWE web link" href="http://www.nawe.co.uk/" target="_blank">National Association of Writers in Education</a>. His debut novel, <em>Shark</em>, will be published in 2012.</p>

<p>Creative Industries Trafford and Castlefield Gallery team up to offer a day of portfolio sessions for contemporary visual artists with leading art professionals.</p>
<p>Bring your portfolio (either in digital format on a laptop or in 2D format – maximum A1 size) for an intensive one-to-one 45 minute session to discuss your work and routes forward with your art career.</p>

<p>This special meeting of The Artists Network features Paulette Terry Brien, Co-Director of <a title="International 3 web link" href="http://www.international3.com/exhibition.php" target="_blank">The International 3 Gallery</a> in Manchester.</p>
<p>Paulette explains how galleries introduce new artists, price their work appropriately and then try to develop a market for a new artist. This workshop will address issues faced by visual artists who are in need of advice in pricing their work - the tension between wanting to recoup the costs of time spent creating a work versus the need to appear affordable to art buyers and how does new talent emerge in a highly competitive market? Paulette will provide insights into the workings of art market and explain how galleries approach the development of unknown artists.</p>
<p>The Artists Network (TAN) is a relaxed, informal networking space for artists from all across Greater Manchester, with each meeting taking a different theme. The group meets 3-4 times a year and we welcome new attendees – this is a place for artists to meet other artists, to get inspiration and share ideas and experience.</p>
<p>Paulette Terry Brien is co-founder and co-Director of The International 3 gallery in Manchester. The International 3 produces a year-round programme of contemporary art exhibitions and events and also represents a core group of artists taking their work to national and international art -fairs to sell their work and broker exhibition opportunities. The International 3 is also the curatorial co-ordinator of The Manchester Contemporary art-fair.</p>

Len reveals how to develop support from partners and clients to enable the delivery of innovative arts projects.</p>
<p>Since 1990, Len’s projects have been commissioned by a range of clients including Manchester City Council and Manchester International Airport. He has documented the construction of many of Manchester’s landmark buildings and followed some of the significant regeneration programmes in the city.</p>
<p>This talk is suitable for writers, photographers, visual artists and those working in a community setting.</p>
